Microsoft Office

Oklahoma City University takes advantage of Microsoft's Office 365 services (learn more here). A great advantage of Office 365 is providing our faculty, staff and students access to the suite of Microsoft Office applications at no charge. Through Office 365, the latest version of Microsoft Office can be downloaded and installed on up to 5 devices.

To install Microsoft Office on your Microsoft Windows or Mac OS device:

1. Sign in to Office 365, authenticating with your university email address and password.
2. Click the Install Office button and follow the on screen instructions.

To install Microsoft Office on mobile platforms such as iOS or Android, refer to the app store associated to your platform. When prompted for credentials to activate the Office products, provide your university email address and password.

Download Tor Browser for free. Browser for using Tor on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux. Tor Browser enables you to use Tor on Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux without needing to install any software. Tor is a software that bounces your communications around a distributed network of relays run by volunteers. Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching

Azure Dev Tools for Teaching is a Microsoft program that provides access to tools commonly used in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs. University students and faculty can access services and software through the website at no cost, including Visual Studio Professional, Windows server, and SQL servers, to name a few.

To take advantage of this service:

1. Log in to the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching using your OCU email address and password.
2. First time users will be requested to accept the terms of this service and will be offered a tour of the interface.
3. To view the list of available software titles, click Software.
4. Click a software title, then click Download or Activate.
5. Follow all prompts to complete the download.
6. To log off, click your account profile in the upper right-hand corner and choose Sign out from the drop-down menu.

MacMiniColo.net, the folks who run a co-location service for over 500 Mac minis, has posted a hands-on review and setup walkthrough of the new Mac mini configured with Mac OS X Server. Also included is a now-standard unboxing and teardown of said mini, confirming what we already know: the optical drive has been replaced with a second 500GB hard drive, Apple uses screws in its construction practice (say it ain't so!), and the mini has an awful lot of technology crammed into a very itsy bitsy box.

Despite its frequent use in the consumer market as a souped-up AppleTV, the mini is a surprisingly versatile general-purpose server, limited before now only by its single internal drive bay. Until recently, Mac OS X Server itself cost $999 for the unlimited-user version; that same price now gets you both the operating system and a mini to run it. The MacMiniColo team also notes that though the new minis (both server and standard) ship with 4GB of RAM standard, their firmware supports up to a hefty 8GB of memory.
